I intend on becoming licensed by examination in the state of Maine, which is a Nurse Licensure Compact state. I plan on applying to hospitals in Maine such as Southern Maine Health Care, and Maine Medical Center. The application is both completed and submitted online which requires official transcripts. In the state of Maine, all RN applicants are required to have a finger-print based criminal background check. This is done through the Maine Department of Public Safety, and you are able to schedule your fingerprint appointment online.
The state of Maine takes drug diversion and nurses working while impaired, rightfully so, very seriously. It is encouraged that if you see someone doing something that you know is wrong, and could potentially cause harm to themselves or other, that you should report it to someone who is in a position of leadership. While an employee is under investigation, an assessment is made regarding their condition and safety. This can range between making sure they can get home okay, and calling the police if they pose a threat to themselves or others. I will work to protect myself from legal issues such as malpractice and negligence by making sure I know all of the policies, rules and regulations of the hospital I plan on working at. I will also always try my best to put the patient first, and respect their needs and their wishes.
